We recommend keeping vehicles off your new driveway for 3 days after installation. Walking on the new pavement with sneakers or flat sole shoes after it is rolled, and complete is fine.
Do not turn the car wheels sharply on the pavement. Additionally, ensure the car is in motion before turning the wheels to avoid gouges from the power steering. Asphalt is malleable and can leave impressions from the tires and cause shifts in the surface grade.
Do not park a trailer or RV on the asphalt pavement without placing a piece of plywood beneath each wheel and the trailer hitch to distribute the weight evenly.
Sharp objects such as gas grills, ladders, tire jacks, high-heeled shoes, lawn chairs, bicycles, and motorcycle kickstands can cause divots and penetrate the surface. Always use wood to distribute the weight.
Do Not permit overweight vehicles on the driveway. The driveway is designed solely for automobile traffic. Heavy trucks, such as garbage, cement, delivery, fuel trucks, and others, can damage the pavement due to their weight.
Do Not drive near or off the edges of your driveway. You may fracture the asphalt and crack the whole edge. All edges should be built up with soil and sod. REASON - Asphalt contains no structural strength of its own; it is merely a wearing surface. The strength lies in the stone or gravel base. Therefore, if great weight is placed unevenly on the unsupported edge, it will crack.
DO NOT allow weeds or other vegetation to encroach on the driveway edges. These invaders can burrow through the stone base and emerge through the asphalt topping, manifesting as bumps or slight eruptions on the driveway surface before they bloom. It's impossible to remove every single weed seed; many are airborne particles that accompany the gravel or stone base during installation. The blacktop's warmth accelerates their germination. The vigor of some weeds is extraordinary, with instances of them piercing even concrete. Their presence has nothing to do with the material's thickness. Treating the area with weed killer or a solution of table salt and water should resolve this issue.
Do Not feel that the driveway should be completely puddle-free. In areas completed by hand or where close drainage tolerances are encountered, this may sometimes occur.
You've made a wise investment in your new asphalt driveway, and it requires protection and maintenance to preserve its condition. Protect your new driveway with our asphalt sealcoat. Prolong the lifespan of your asphalt pavement, we recommend having us apply sealer approximately 6 months to a year after the asphalt paving has been completed. Sealcoating will guard against oxidation and resist UV rays, as well as gas and oil spills that lead to premature aging and pavement failure. Subsequent applications of sealer should occur every 2-3 years.
